THE FULL ROADTRIP
Day 1: Peaks and Charm: From Cortina to the Tre Cime
You wake up in the charming village of Cortina d’Ampezzo—a stylish little town with the flair of a city. Hotels here tend to be on the pricier side, but a simple place will do just fine, since you’ll hardly be spending time in your room.
Day 1 kicks off with a rewarding hike to one of the Dolomites’ most iconic landmarks: the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, also known as the Three Peaks. For details about the hike, you can read the next article.
By late afternoon, you’ll have some free time to explore the village itself. Wander through its picturesque streets, soak in the alpine charm, and in the evening, find a cozy terrace to enjoy a bite to eat.
Day 2: Trail Through the Peaks: The Sorapis Adventure
Today, you're in for another rewarding hike—this time to the stunning Lago di Sorapis. This breathtaking turquoise lake is tucked away high in the mountains, surrounded by dramatic peaks and rugged cliffs. Its surreal blue color, caused by glacial minerals, makes it one of the most photogenic spots in the Dolomites.
The trail to Lago di Sorapis is a full-day adventure, especially if you take your time to soak in the views along the way. The hike itself is moderately challenging, with some narrow paths and rocky sections, but the scenery more than makes up for the effort. Towering limestone walls, alpine meadows, and panoramic vistas accompany you throughout the journey.
Be sure to pack enough water, snacks, and a camera—you’ll want to capture every moment. And while the lake is the highlight, the journey there is just as memorable. For detailed hiking instructions, it’s best to read the next article.
Day 3: Serenity and Scenery in the Dolomites
On Day 3, it’s time to slow down and indulge in some well-deserved relaxation. You’ll be heading to a new hotel, but not without a scenic detour first.
Along the way, make a peaceful stop at Lago di Landro, a tranquil lake with striking blue waters nestled between the mountains. Take a moment to sit on a bench by the shore, breathe in the crisp alpine air, and simply enjoy the view.
Afterward, continue your journey to Innichen, another charming village full of character. Spend a few hours wandering through its quaint streets, browsing local shops, and soaking up the atmosphere on one of the many inviting terraces.
By early afternoon, you’ll arrive at your hotel: Leitlhof. And there’s only one word to describe it—wow. This luxurious retreat offers everything you need to unwind. Spend the afternoon in the wellness area, where saunas, pools, and mountain views melt your stress away.
In the evening, treat yourself to a multi-course dinner bursting with regional flavors. After that, it’s early to bed—tomorrow promises another adventure.
Of course, Leitlhof is just one of many incredible wellness hotels scattered throughout the Dolomites. Feel free to choose the one that suits your style and preferences best. There’s no shortage of alpine bliss here.
Day 4: Sunrise Reflections and Alpine Charm
Rise and shine early today—because one of the most iconic sights in the Dolomites is on the agenda: Lago di Braies. To truly experience its serene beauty and avoid the crowds, it’s best to arrive at first light. The lake’s crystal-clear blue waters, framed by dramatic mountain peaks, are especially magical in the morning.
Take your time on the short walk around the lake. It’s an easy loop, perfect for soaking in the views, snapping photos, and simply breathing in the alpine air.
Later in the morning, continue your journey toward Ortisei, a lovely town nestled in Val Gardena. On the way, make a brief stop in Ranui, where you’ll find a tiny, picture-perfect church set against a stunning mountain backdrop. It’s a postcard moment you won’t want to miss.
Once in Ortisei, check into your hotel. A great recommendation is Casa al Sole—a cozy, centrally located spot with incredibly warm and welcoming hosts. It’s the kind of place that instantly feels like home.
For dinner, head to La Betula. Don’t let the modest exterior fool you—inside, you’ll find delicious gourmet burgers and even a beer tasting experience. It’s a fun and relaxed way to end the day.
Day 5: Hiking High: The Seceda Adventure
Today promises an unforgettable hike—you’re heading to the majestic Seceda mountain, one of the most iconic peaks in the Dolomites. With its dramatic jagged ridgeline and sweeping alpine views, it’s a dream for hikers and photographers alike.
There are several routes to choose from, depending on your fitness level and how much time you want to spend on the trail. In the following article, you’ll find helpful tips to pick the perfect path for your adventure.
After your hike, return to your hotel for a refreshing shower and a well-earned rest. In the evening, treat yourself to a delicious meal at Turonda, a cozy local restaurant. Be sure to ask for a spot on the back terrace—it's the perfect place to catch the last rays of sunshine while enjoying a mouthwatering pizza and perhaps a glass of wine.
Day 6: Farewell to the Dolomites
Today marks the final chapter of your road trip through the Dolomites. From Ortisei, drive onward to Lago di Carezza, yet another dazzling alpine lake known for its vivid blue-green waters and postcard-perfect reflections of the surrounding peaks.
It’s a beautiful spot, but be prepared—it can get quite crowded, especially during peak hours. If you're hoping for a quiet, secluded finale to your journey, you might want to skip this stop or arrive very early.
Not quite ready to head home? Extend your adventure with a city break in Verona! This romantic and historic city offers a completely different vibe—think cobblestone streets, Roman amphitheaters, and Juliet’s famous balcony. It’s the perfect way to transition from mountain magic to Italian elegance.
