THE HIKE

General info about Seceda

The best way to start your hike to Seceda is from the Col Raiser cable car. You can either take the lift all the way up or hike from the valley—but be warned, the climb is long and steep. Since you’ll be covering quite a bit of ground today, saving your energy with the lift might be a smart move.

Once at the top, you’ll arrive near Almhotel Col Raiser, a great base to begin your hike. Starting here means most of your uphill effort happens in the morning, so by the time your legs start to feel tired in the afternoon, you’ll mostly be descending.

Ask your hotel for a trail map—there are several routes to choose from, depending on how far you want to walk. Is there one perfect path? Not really. Every viewpoint along the way is stunning in its own right. Just make sure your route brings you to the Seceda ridge around the midpoint of your hike. That jaw-dropping view is absolutely unmissable.

Along the way, you’ll pass plenty of mountain huts where you can stop for a drink or a bite to eat. Some even have lounge chairs outside—perfect for stretching out in the sun and soaking in the alpine atmosphere. It’s the kind of moment that makes you forget time altogether.

If you prefer to follow a clearly outlined path rather than choosing your own adventure, we’ve got you covered. Below you'll find a step-by-step hiking route starting from Almhotel Col Raiser, designed to cover around 9 km and guide you past the most breathtaking viewpoints in the Seceda region.

Details of our hike

Your day begins with a ride to the valley station of the Col Raiser cable car in Santa Cristina. This lift whisks you up to the mountain station near Almhotel Col Raiser, sitting at around 2,100 meters. It’s the perfect starting point—fresh legs, high altitude, and instant views.

From the hotel, follow the trail toward Rifugio Fermeda, a gentle path winding through lush alpine meadows with stunning views of the Odle peaks. After about 1.5 km, you’ll reach the hut—an ideal spot for a quick coffee or a short break.

Next comes the more challenging stretch: a 2 km climb toward the Seceda summit cross. The trail ascends steadily, and the views become increasingly dramatic. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most iconic panoramas in the Dolomites. Take your time here—this is a moment to savor.

From the summit, descend slightly to the Seceda ridgeline, where jagged cliffs plunge into green valleys below. This section is pure magic—perfect for photos and quiet reflection.

Continue along a scenic trail toward Malga Pieralongia Alm, about 2 km away. Nestled between rock formations and pastures, this rustic hut is a great place to stop for lunch. Grab a simple mountain meal and stretch out in one of the lounge chairs under the sun. It’s alpine serenity at its finest.

To complete the loop, follow trail 4A back toward the Col Raiser station. This final 2.5 km section is a gentle descent through meadows dotted with wildflowers and grazing cows. You’ll arrive back at the cable car station with tired legs and a full heart.
