DISCOVERING SNAEFELLSNES
Often called “Iceland in Miniature,” the Snæfellsnes Peninsula offers a stunning variety of landscapes in one compact region. From dramatic cliffs and black sand beaches to lava fields and charming fishing villages,. Whether you're hiking, spotting seals along the coast, or exploring ancient lava caves, Snæfellsnes is a must-see for any Iceland itinerary.
HIGHLIGHTS SNAEFELLSNESS
1. Ytri Tunga Beach
Ytri Tunga is a charming beach known for its seal colony. Unlike many of Iceland’s black sand beaches, this one has golden sand and calm waters, making it a peaceful spot to visit. It’s a great place for a short stop—especially if you’re hoping to spot seals lounging on the rocks near the shore. Bring binoculars and a bit of patience, and you might catch them sunbathing or swimming just offshore.
2. Búðakirkja – The Black Church of Búðir
Búðakirkja is a striking black church set against the dramatic backdrop of lava fields and mountains. Its bold color and remote location make it one of Iceland’s most photographed landmarks. Surrounded by untouched nature, it’s a peaceful and atmospheric spot—perfect for a short stop to admire the scenery and snap a few photos.
3. Kirkjufellfoss
Kirkjufellfoss is one of Iceland’s most iconic photo spots—and chances are, you’ve already seen it pop up in travel guides or on social media. The scene is truly breathtaking: a graceful waterfall cascading down in the foreground, with the perfectly shaped Kirkjufell mountain rising behind it. It’s a magical place to pause, take in the view, and capture a postcard-worthy shot.
4. Simply Enjoy the Views
One of the best things about traveling through Snæfellsnes is soaking in the incredible scenery. Whether you're driving along the coast or standing at a lookout point, the landscapes are breathtaking. Even on grey or cloudy days, the dramatic skies only add to the atmosphere. Take your time, pause often, and let Iceland’s raw beauty leave you speechless.
