ONE DAY IN OSLO: A CITY FULL OF SURPRISES

After days of fjords, mountains, and winding roads, arriving in Oslo feels like stepping into a whole new rhythm. Norway’s capital is vibrant, walkable, and packed with culture — perfect for a one-day urban adventure!

WHAT TO DO IN OSLO

1. Visit the Oslo Opera House

Located right on the waterfront, the Oslo Opera House is one of Norway’s most iconic architectural gems. Its sleek, sloping roof invites you to walk all the way to the top, offering panoramic views of the Oslofjord and the city skyline. Whether you're catching a performance or just admiring the design, it's a place where art, architecture, and nature meet beautifully.

2. Lunch at the Oslo Street Food Hall

If you're looking for a tasty and laid-back lunch spot in Oslo, the Oslo Street Food Hall is a must! Located in the heart of the city, this vibrant indoor market offers a world of flavors under one roof — from Korean bao buns and Mexican tacos to juicy burgers and fresh vegan bowls.

The atmosphere is buzzing, with communal tables, colorful stalls, and the scent of spices in the air.

3. Watch the Changing of the Guard at the Royal Palace

One of Oslo’s classic experiences is witnessing the Changing of the Guard at the Royal Palace. Every day at 1:30 PM, the King’s Guard performs a ceremonial shift in front of the palace — complete with uniforms, marching, and military precision. It’s a proud tradition and a great way to soak up some royal atmosphere.

The palace itself is surrounded by beautiful gardens, so it’s worth arriving a bit early to enjoy a stroll before the ceremony begins.

4. Tjuvholmen – Oslo’s Waterfront Gem

Tjuvholmen is one of Oslo’s most exciting and modern neighborhoods — a stylish blend of architecture, art, and seaside charm. Located right next to Aker Brygge, this waterfront district invites you to slow down and soak up the city’s relaxed coastal vibe.

The area is known for its sleek buildings, open-air sculptures, and the renowned Astrup Fearnley Museum, which showcases contemporary art in a striking glass-and-wood structure. But what makes Tjuvholmen truly special is its connection to the water. At the edge of the district, you’ll find a small city beach where locals come to swim, sunbathe, or simply enjoy the fjord breeze. It’s the perfect spot to cool off on a warm day or take in the sunset over the Oslofjord.

Cafés, wine bars, and restaurants line the pedestrian-friendly streets, offering everything from fresh seafood to craft cocktails. Whether you're grabbing a drink with friends or enjoying a quiet moment by the water, Tjuvholmen delivers a unique mix of urban energy and seaside serenity.

HOTEL TIP

Our hotel stay

Stay at Thon Hotel – Comfort Meets Culinary Delight During our time in Oslo, we stayed at the Thon Hotel, and it was an absolute treat. The hotel itself is stylish and modern, with vibrant interiors and super comfortable rooms — perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring the city.

But the real highlight? The breakfast buffet. Honestly, we’ve rarely seen anything this extensive! From freshly baked bread and pastries to warm dishes, fruits, smoothies, and even local specialties — it felt more like a brunch feast than a typical hotel breakfast. Whether you’re into sweet or savory, healthy or indulgent, there’s something for everyone.
