TRAVEL TIPS FOR OMAN
Decided to travel to Oman? Great choice! Below you'll find all the essential tips you need before you go, so you won’t be caught off guard once your adventure begins.
When to travel?
Oman is a year-round destination, but timing your trip well can make a big difference in your experience.
The most comfortable period to visit is between November and April, when temperatures are pleasantly warm—perfect for hiking, sightseeing, and exploring the desert without overheating. During these months, the weather is ideal for outdoor adventures, with daytime highs ranging from 24°C to 30°C and cooler nights in the mountains.
If you're considering a summer trip, be prepared: July and August are extremely hot, with temperatures often soaring above 45°C. Outdoor activities can be challenging, especially in inland areas like Wahiba Sands or Jebel Shams. However, there’s a unique reason to brave the heat—it’s turtle season. Along the coast, especially at Ras al Jinz, you can witness green turtles nesting and hatching, a rare and magical experience that only happens during these peak summer months.
So whether you’re chasing cooler breezes or unforgettable wildlife moments, Oman offers something special in every season—just pack accordingly!
Visa!
If you search online, you will often read that a visa isn’t strictly required in advance for Oman.
But don’t make the same mistake we did! At the airport check-in, the airline may still ask for proof of a valid visa before letting you board.
To avoid last-minute stress and potential issues, it’s best to apply for your visa ahead of time.
Luckily, the process is super straightforward and can be done easily through the official website of the Omani government. A few clicks, a small fee, and you’re good to go—no headaches, no surprises.
Rent a car!
The second thing you have to do is to rent a car. But not just any car; a 4x4 is the way to go. While a standard vehicle might seem more budget-friendly, it simply won’t get you everywhere you’ll want to go. Oman’s true beauty lies off the beaten path: winding mountain roads, remote desert camps, and hidden wadis that require a bit of rugged driving. With a 4x4, you’re free to explore at your own pace, without relying on local transport or expensive guided tours to reach those harder-to-access spots.
Yes, it’s a bit more expensive upfront, but it pays off in flexibility, comfort, and adventure. You’ll be able to drive straight into the desert, climb into the Hajar Mountains, and take scenic detours whenever inspiration strikes. In short: if you want the full experience, a 4x4 isn’t just a luxury—it’s a game-changer
The good news? Fuel is surprisingly cheap, so driving long distances won’t break the bank.

Get yourself an eSim!
This is by far the easiest way to navigate through the country. Many hotels are located in remote areas—some perched at 3,000 meters in the mountains, others deep in the desert—and often lack reliable internet connections. If you want to look things up, plan your next stop, or stay connected while relaxing in your hotel, having mobile data is essential.
We did this via an eSIM, which you can purchase in advance and activate before your trip. It’s incredibly simple—no need to visit a store or swap physical cards. Just download, install, and you're online the moment you land. Trust us, it’s a small step that makes a big difference.
